for some reason I was more attracted to that brick wall…
Olivier wrote (for those who don’t speak French):
“Other than lacking benches, Alexandria seems to be a pretty town. Is this old town important?”
Yes, Alexandria is a little important. It’s located 7 miles from Washington DC, on the other side of the Potomac River. George Washington, “father” of our country, spent a lot of time here. Also, his house at Mt. Vernon is very close. Now a lot of tourists come here because of all the old preserved buildings.
Santy, I found the lines of the brick wall, the lines on the lamp and the lines of the shutter to be very pleasing and harmonious. I also was attracted to how the lighting at that moment made the shutter slats so luminous.
Yes, the horizontal lines on the bricks, shutters, and lantern work well together. Great close-up. too.
I have one of these on my back porch that my Dad actually made!
Very nice detail, the lantern is a beautiful piece in itself and your photo is a great capture of it
