Is That the Chattanooga Choo Choo?

Chattanooga Choo Choo?

While cruising Commonwealth Avenue in Del Ray, this red caboose behind the Mt. Vernon Elementary School gave me one of those great WTF moments that make you scramble for a parking spot. What’s it doing there? Follow this link. A little Google later, I learned that Del Ray, which was incorporated in 1908 as an independent town called Potomac before being annexed by Alexandria in 1930, was where a lot of railroad workers used to live when Potomac Yard was an active rail yard. Yes, it was a rail yard before it became a shopping mall! All aboard, we’re chugging through the Del Ray neighborhood again this week, to places where no train has gone before.

I wonder if that’s the original colour of the caboose? it’s a vibrant red!

It could very well be. Red was a popular color for cabooses at one time.
