This is the original Gadsby’s Tavern, a restaurant and inn that George Washington frequented, an example of Federal Style architecture. The owner later expanded the establishment when he acquired the three-story building next door. It’s now a museum and well worth a visit.

Alexandria was founded and built by immigrants from Great Britain before the U.S. gained its independence from Great Britain, so you are quite right. You can find out more about the museum and its exhibits by following the link in the blog. 🙂
Tricky, I couldn’t comment until I followed the link! I like the sound of the word “tavern” which is seldom used –better than bar, or even saloon –for which I have some fondness, too. It conjures up better images!!
