Evening Star Cafe in Del Ray looks great at night. Although it’s a popular local hangout, it’s a bit pricey for my pocketbook. Here’s what it looks like during the day.

This scene of the Hard Times Cafe was one of my early posts back in May 2006.

The Chart House restaurant on the marina has a built-in lighthouse. I don’t know whether it’s real or not.

Generous George’s Positive Pizza and Pasta Place on Duke Street has been around since 1977, a remarkable feat in the restaurant business. Recently the building got a facelift with a fresh coat of cotton candy pink paint and new awnings, making it much more inviting. It’s been awhile since I’ve been there. Guess it’s time to return and see whether the inside has gotten a facelift, too. All I remember is the portions were huge, and the lasagna and margaritas were outstanding. No wonder they’ve been in business for so long.
I should write an Alexandria restaurant guide because I love eating out, and I love sharing the best and most interesting places on Alexandria Daily Photo. Haven’t eaten here yet, but Al’s Steak House on Mt. Vernon Avenue has been a Del Ray landmark since 1956. Their specialty is Philly cheesesteak sandwiches.
I wonder if that telephone gets used any more.
Mt. Vernon Avenue in Del Ray is the main drag where most of the restaurants and cafes are located. Too bad for me! Fireflies was closed this afternoon when I came by.
