These historic Prince Street townhouses are next to the Athenaeum, just up the street from Captain’s Row.

These historic Captain’s Row homes, even though they are on a slight slope, are close enough to the river that they have experienced flooding at times.

In a few months, this will be a lovely picture of some beautiful trees on Captain’s Row with some brick houses peeking through behind them.

Captain’s Row is the local name by which a one-block section of Prince Street near the Potomac River is known. It got the name because in Alexandria’s early days, many sea captains had homes here. The street is narrow and is one of the few left which has its original cobblestones.

Those who visited Alexandria Daily Photo at the end of October may have seen more of the Carlyle House than they wanted! With the moody lighting of a snowstorm, it looks a bit forbidding.
Our dusting of snow is melting away fast, but I do have a couple more I’d like to show you. It’s still winter, after all.
