When Dave emailed me last month, he told me he had lived in several places in Alexandria as a child and was interested in getting some current photographs of his former residences. He was coming to town in April for a veterans’ reunion, so he wondered if I would be interested in meeting him and his wife and taking a few pictures for him. I was delighted to do so.

Here Dave is standing next to the building where his aunt used to live on North Fairfax Street, holding a photograph of himself and his brothers and sisters taken there. Not surprisingly, I had photographed this very same window last October.

He brought the photo wanting to give it to the current owners of the building and hoping for a glimpse inside. He rang the doorbell, but unfortunately no one was home.

It’s interesting what blogging does—little surprises here and there. Did you know Dave before this excursion with him; I’m assuming that you didn’t, but I could be wrong?

Kate, my first contact with Dave was when he found my blog and sent me an email a month ago. It is fun, meeting people you’ve only “known” on the internet!

Jazzy, that’s very kind of you. It’s such an incomprehensible tragedy.
